The X8 is still a decent vacuum on bare floors that can carry debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with relative ease. Its tyres are adept at hugging edges and corners, even though they are circular. Similar to the latest models of iRobot like the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping technology that uses an LIDAR sensor to map an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once the room is mapped, the app lets you assign virtual no-go areas and favorite sections that the robot will automatically clean. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start a manual clean or watch live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.
The RX2 has excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions in a flash. The suction and sweeping capabilities are excellent, taking away surface debris from carpets with medium pile as well as dust that has been deposited on floors. It's not the fastest robotics available. As with many others, it's not a good climber and has issues with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.

The controls are less basic than the competition's. There is a cleaning button at the top, and you can start it with the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, create no-go zones and check its cleaning history. Ion is clad in a smart dark gray plastic that is both attractive and appealing in your home. The rear dust bin is accessible for emptying and removing the filter just as simple.
